I’m really enjoying my friend Dr. Pamela Lindell’s “Ho’olupa Wednesday” free Hawaiian music radio program that’s on all day today, Wed., 05/09/12: http://www.live365.com/index.live . What’s really cool is that she plays different versions of songs back-to-back so you can compare and contrast, e.g., “Radio Hula” arrangements by Bryan Tolentino, George Kuo, and Led Kaapana, respectively. It’s also a treat to hear older and/or less known recordings.
Per Pam’s Facebook site: “Ho`olupa Wednesday” is the radio program brought to you by Ho`olupa Hawaiian Culture Foundation, where music and education go hand in hand! This week's theme is tradition and change in Hawaiian mele. Tune in - the program plays all day long!
Check out Ho’olupa’s website to see the other wonderful cultural and educational programs that they have, including ‘olelo Hawaii classes here in the Bay Area: http://hoolupa.org/ . Mahalo to Pam Lindell and Patrick Landeza for creating Ho’olupa.
Aloha, Doug
