Be sure to scroll down to the "comments" section at the bottom of the article -- they omitted two MAJOR spots (Corner Kitchen and Waikiki Marriott)!

My #1 when on O`ahu, is Corner Kitchen (on Kapahulu, across from Rainbow Drive-Inn). Very casual, excellent food (prices are quite reasonable), marvelous entertainment every night. On-street parking is hard to find -- recommend using the garage under Hee Hing Restaurant on Kapahulu (costs about $5) and they park it for you.

Corner Kitchen is popular with locals, musicians, and hula dancers -- it's small, so it fills up fast and early. Recommend getting there not later than 6pm to avoid the long wait for sitting.

I added a comment to remind them about Honey's at the Ko`olau golf course.

The article was focusing on music venues in the immediate Honolulu area -- now they need to do another, which would include places like Honey's in Kane`ohe...

The title says "Around Honolulu" but the article included KBC in Hawai`i Kai, Aulani Resort, Surfer in Kahuku, Big Country in Waimanalo, and Haleiwa Joe's in Kane`ohe. I think they were using the mainland definition of "around" - we consider an hour drive a reasonable trip for a restaurant or show, or at least I do.
