Very nice Potluck/BBQ/Kanikapila with Kory & Jack in lower Pauoa Valley today. Duh??? Of course we did "Pauoa liko ka lehua" Ki ho'alu & vocals by our own fellow Taropatcher Peter Medeiros. Oh & additional ki ho'alu stylings by some other Taropatcher by the name of Ozzie Kotani. There were about 13 of us of which 8 were slackers!!!! Tomorrow I'm hitching a ride with Seattle's Best to the Waimea Valley Kanikapila........You folks that frequent the Kahumoku & Aloha Music Camps should seriously think about making a side trip to Oahu to hook up with our network of musicians for an unforgettable Hawaiian music experience. And the price is right....NUTTIN'

Mahalo, Duke. We had a great time at Wailua today. Tim Abrigo Sr. had my sound adjusted prefectly. After it was over, an elderly gentleman who was playing uke and bass came over, said he played a steel like my D8 Fender Stringmaster, and aked me if I had taken lessons from Jerry Byrd. I said I didn't, but I take from Alan Akaka, who was Jerry's prime student. He said "Well, you sound like Jerry Byrd." WOW. Sometimes I DO get all my steel s****ht together, I guess.

Had a pretty good day of music with Jack & Kory yesterday. First it was a couple hour session at Nico's with Ramon Camarillo,Peter Medeiros, Kalei Davis & Kimo Stone. Jack & Kory did the whole 3 hours. I just sat in for maybe 45 minutes.

Later we went to Hawaii Kai for a potluck kanikapila with our host Kelly a wahine slack key haumana of Led's (She's pretty good too)Her friend George Kuo joined us for the 4 hour session that included Ramon Camarillo, a bassist named Mark then Jack, Kory & I. First time I actually got to jam some ki ho'alu with George Kuo.

Tonight we go to a party in Pacific Palisades. Ramon invited us & some of the musicians who'll be there are Auntie Lei Aken (Led's sister) Ivan Ho'opi'i (911 hero Isaac's brother)& who knows who else will show up. We be rockin' this town....AURYTE!!!!

Hey Braddah Duke, I haven’t posted in a long time but had to come out of Lurking Land since you mentioned one party in my hometown of Palisades. Good thing I’m not in town cause I know every street and would find you guys and crash da party! Eh, Andy Admin’s even been to Palisades long time ago (Andy you remember?). Speaking of Ramon, I saw Led last night in our CA neck of the woods and Ramon’s name came up because, as you know, he performs with Lei all the time. Send him my aloha and have fun tonight!

Aloha,
Doug

Howzit Doug!!! Good to hear from you, brah. I just went Google map da buggah. The party was on Aamanu St. a couple houses down from Auhuhu St on the Ewa side of the road.

We had good fun & played about 3 hours. It was me, Kory & Jack sitting in with Ramon, Auntie Lei, Ivan & Jesse Gregorio Sr (Led's bass player) We sounded like a band that had been together for ages 90% of the time. The other 10% was me screwing upThe party was for someone who had strong ties to a halau so we had a lot of hula. Keiki hula, young men & women dancers too. It was really cool.

Eh Duke, you guys were one street over from where I grew up. If I cut through the neighbor’s house across the street I would be on Aamanu in 20 seconds! This is the original part of Palisades. The community center is down the street from where you guys were playing, and the elementary school is about 1/4 mile away on Auhuhu St. Sounds like an awesome party—some serious talent! Now I’m homesick . . . .

Aloha,
Doug

Greg & Jean you both are great. I'd really love to visit Seattle & one day I will. Dunno when the stars will align in order for it to happen but it's definitely on the "bucket list"

Jean, I heard all about you & the extraordinary lengths you go to,to host kanikapilas & guests. I think it's awesome that you are perpetuating Hawaiian music up there in the Pacific Northwest. Much respect for you & your efforts.

E Duke! Was talking with a visiting friend this weekend, someone to whom we have taught "Pua Hone," and she asked "next time you go to Hawai`i, look for an album by these guys who do my favorite version of that song." I asked who the musicians were, and she sez, "I dunno the band, but the leader's name is Duke Domingo."

So - where do I find your album for her, ah?

Aaaaah Retro, unfortunately it was a huge case of mistaken identity. We only did "Pua Hone" on YouTube. I actually started work on a CD in January 2012 though but I abandoned it. I plan to start another project soon. For the record I was never the leader of a band. LOL I didn't even like being referred to as a "featured" part of the band.

Maybe the lady saw Weldon, Bryan & thought Alika Boy was me.....Alika is the only one I know of that shares my haircut and "presence" onstage hahaha.

Feels great to be recognized though

It was you guys she saw on YouTube, I told her you didn't have an album yet, but that we knew you from TP. She loves the way you guys played it - nahenahe all the way.

Not sure why she thought you were "leader," unless she just didn't know who was who in the video. Or just your enchanting stage presence. Yeah, dassit.
