I just got to Kauai and upon inquiring about whether or not Mike Young was playing this week, I was told that he has brain cancer. On the 14th, they had a fund-raiser for his medical expenses. I don't know how many of you know Mike's music, but he's one of my local favorites; a long-time Kauai resident who used to play with Peter Moon years ago (in fact, his regular guitar is Peter Moon's old Takamine). I last saw and played with him in September. My wife told me that Mike told her at that time that he was having trouble with his memory.
I'm still searching for info. Maybe Auntie Maria will see this and fill us in. Auntie, I'll be here for 3 weeks if I can help. Im checking email regularly.
As far as I know, Mike plays when he can -- mostly at Casablanca Restaurant in Po`ipu. Call them to find out...
He's been in treatment for the tumor...hoping to get more advanced care on the mainland soon.
