This message may be more appropriate for Talk Story, but no mattah, it relates to AMC.

I’m reading a delightful oral history about Moloka’i. The title is Tales From the Night Rainbow – Mo’oleo o na Po Makile, The Story of a Woman, a People, and an Island. The stories are detailed, frank and spoken from the heart. The book can be ordered by going to www.nativebookshawaii.com or call 1-800-887-7751. I’ll bring my copy to camp, but I think Auntie Nancy has first dibs.

An excellent book, out of print for a long time, re-released a few years ago.

There is a follow-up book called "Ho'oponopono" (I think - don't have my copy with me at the moment).

This book is a real treasure, a firsthand memoir of the era between Kamehameha I and the 20th century. Really amazing. Because Molokai wasn't dominated by the monarchy in the way larger islands were, some pre-contact culture and religion continued there and were documented.
It also helps explain the Hawaiians' attitudes toward missionaries and their teachings. Lots of good stuff, easy to read.

Aloha Larry!
Mahalo for remembering I wanted to read it. Jesse had mentioned it before and it sounded wonderful, but then said it was out of print - and I didn't find it locally...
Will have to read that and then the one Puna mentions.

Aloha - Sorry for any confusion or difficulty. I thought I copied the information correctly out of the book.

I just did a search and found it at:

www.tropicislemusic.com/books/mythology9.htm
