Ah, I getcha. Miki-miki = energetic. Just take out the `okina.

Cool - you've taught me a new word; mahalo! In exchange, here's your Hawaiian language lesson for the day (I've had to learn a LOT of these "lessons" - and there are plenty more ahead of me): In `olelo Hawai`i, you won't find two consonants together. `Okina is considered to be a consonant, so you won't find it immediately preceeding or following a consonant.

Jean, Kory and I were discussing another kani at Kona Kitchen in a couple of weeks due to the low turnout today. This could be in lieu of a home kani in later January. If this happens, I can host the first kani in Feb. We'll keep you all posted.

I think we could make a Konakapila on the 19th. Couldn't go today - first Saturday is always radio day.

I also off the air till around Feb. 10. That's when we get back from ke one hanau. Birth land that is. Going out tomorrow to spend 19 days on O'ahu 6 days on Hawai'i to see daughter and mo'opuna and old music partner. Will in both Hilo and Kona then Moloka'i for 7 days at Aloha Guitar camp then one more night on O'ahu and fly home to Bainbridge Island. Of course we come into to SeaTac then limo to ferry terminal.
I emailed Cyril and he's playing on the 11th at the foundation of the arts next door to 'Iolani Palace. Free concert so maybe I get to meet him this time.

Hey gang, the next kanikapila for Lei Mele is at Likeke's (Rich's) place on Feb 9th at 3:30. Same rules as Auntie Jean - no amps except for bass. It will be pot luck (we'll supply the barbecue chicken and rice). Email me if you need directions.

Respomse to Rich. Didn't jam on O'ahu except in condo. It was one of those oldies where the sound goes everywhere.the whole complex heard me and i got nothing but positive comments. However I did see a number of people. Kalae Miles at pekelo Live. Joe the fidller on the street at Waikiki. Some unkown Kanakas at Ward Warehouse jammin with steel and guitars and ukes They are there every Sunday afternoon and welcome any player to join in. I jammed of course with K Beamer Owana Salazar Sonny Lim Mark Nelson and a number of great players from all over the world as well as our very own Jay and Jean and Suzie. While I was in Kona I jammed with some guys on stage at the Vista. Its a restaurant at the Kona country club. Also with Art Akina. I talked with Alan Akaka and we remenisced about the old days. We go back a few years. Led Ka'apana played at Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii Kai and we talked a little bit too.
All in all it was agreat trip. Oh yeah did I mention Cyril Pahinui and Nathan Aweau. I just talked with them a little bit. Nathan
plays at Chai's one night a week. Its the place to catch a lot of the biggies.
My best experience was with Sonny and Keola I learned three songs and Sonny is an avid fisherman so we got to eat fresh opihi that he pounded right from the rocks at the beach where we stayed. Also got a taste of conch shell something like abalone real ono.
Its great to be Hawaiian in Hawaii especially on Moloka'i. O'ahu is pretty bad. All concrete and cars and people. While we were there some crazy threw a 2 year old off the over pass and it made traffic bad. Not to discount the tragedy but it took an hour and half to go from Ala Moana center to Waikiki that day. So its OK that i moved to the PNW when I did. In one week a husband killed his wife with a knife, and some ex boyriend beat his ex girlfriend to death with a shot gun and hospitalised a would be rescuer. Too violent in Hawaii now a days. Too crowded too.

No'eau, eia au he mea pa'ani wale nō.
