The 5th Annual Ukulele and Slack Key Guitar Institute is scheduled to be held at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea (Kamuela) on the Big Island of Hawaii, on November 9-12, 2006. Performance and workshop schedules will be posted at a later date on the Kahilu Theatre's website at www.kahilutheatre.org.

I just confirmed the dates today. Hopefully they will update the info at the website soon and announce who will be teaching this year.

I have attended for the last few years and have loved the workshops. The theater management, however, seems a bit clueless on Hawaiian Music protocol (?). I was particularly troubled during the Sunday afternoon on-stage interviews with the paniolo families when the manager kept slipping little notes onto the stage, clearly trying to terminate what was a once-in-a-lifetime talk story. I'm wondering if this had any impact on who will return this year. The year before, a wonderful jam was building between two Indian musician brothers, Led Kaapana, Bobby Ingano etc. and suddenly we were pau. Anyone know the lineup? Will the Kamakahi's be returning? James Hill? Gordon Mark? Those Sunday interviews for the last two years have been a priceless peep into the history of Big Island ranching and music.

Me ke aloha,
Lynn
