Hi, I will be attending the Feb workshop on Molokai. I fly into Maui Saturday afternoon, take the morning ferry to Molokai Sunday. Would like to share rides from airport on Maui to Lahania, a room for the night, and maybe from ferry to venue. Any others in such a situation?

Hi, Karl! I'm looking forward to meeting you. I am flying in to Maui on Friday (along with Karol Evans, who lurks here) and we are staying in Lahaina for the ferry departure on Sunday. I am planning on spending time at the kanikapila at Waihe`e on Saturday. I would be happy to pick you up from the airport and bring you back with us to Lahaina (although if your flight gets in early enough, I might force you to detour by Waihe`e first...)
We will not have a car on Moloka`i, but the shuttle from the ferry to the Lodge is pretty reasonably priced.
As long as we are talking AMC, are there any other taropatchers coming to Camp next month? I know lots of people are availing themselves of the awesome opportunity to double up on workshops in June, but there's not a lot of talk about February....
Me ke aloha,
Debbie |

And I will be there (Lynn Samuels) as well as German Gemini Angela. Right now, it looks like Verena needs to stay in Hamburg making sure the government is running smoothly. It would be great if she can sneak away and join us.
We are flying in to Moloka'i on Island Air that arrives at 2:05. Last year I rented a car, but never used it and paid mucho bucks for it. This year we're looking for a ride or suggestions on best way to get from airport to the ranch shuttle.

Debbie, i'll see if i can get an earl.y enough arrival to allow for the kanikapila as well as the ride. Thanks for the offer. And, we can share the taxi to the resort, maybe? |

Hi, Jean! Hi, Lynn! It will be great to see you there (but I will miss Susy and Verena, particularly for the fun they add to the student performance!).
Karl - we are not taking a taxi per se, but a shuttle van from Molokai Outdoors. You call them up and tell them when and to where you need a ride (advance reservation), then they show up at the appointed time with a big van and cram you in with as much people and luggage as they can manage. The charge is about $30 (for 2 people) from the ferry to the Lodge, and about $25 from the Lodge to the airport. There is precedent for finding another single traveler with whom to split the cost of a "couple" fare - thanks, Duke!! The phone number for the company is 808-553-4477. They are very nice people and do a good job of managing the hordes of folks needing rides to and from Camp. (Although I darn near missed my ride to the ferry last year because I was socializing instead of waiting patiently outside with everybody else...) |

The best way is to contact one of the shuttle services we've listed on our website under Travel Info:
Molokai Off-Road Tours & Taxi Phone & Fax: 808-553-3369 MORT @ aloha.net Molokai Outdoors Phone: 808-553-4477 Fax: 808-553-3000 OUTDOORS @ aloha.net
Hele Mai Taxi Locally owned full service taxi service. Phone 808-336-0967
It's best to contact them well ahead of your arrival; it's a small island with limited resources. Not a bad idea to check in the day before, too. Cost varies with number of passangers.
See you all soon!

The van folks last Feb. were very cool, and very pleasant. I had called them a few weeks in advance (because I am one of those people who hate unpleasant surprises), but it didn't seem to really matter - they took everybody, no matter if they had called or what, at the ferry terminal. Makes good business sense, too. They also made a tiny detour to the airport on the way to pick up folks who came in planes. The van rides were nice, too, because we got to gossip and joke (well, it is impossible NOT to if Boo and Julie are there) as well as see some of the Island. The stop off at the Lodge was good, too. Met more people, ate a nice brunch, had a drinky, shopped for wine, and then we all went on our merry way to Kaupoa Village for more good times.
Reverse was just as good, except we were leaving.
Lots easier logistics than I thought it would be.
Oh yes... watch out for Debbie if the waves are high on the ferry crossing because she *will* be totally wet. You might want to have a towel handy. She loves being blasted by crashing breakers. We have pix to prove it.
Have fun and say Aloha to Anakala Pilipo, Auntie Maile and the rest for Sarah and me.

But of course! The beauty of it is that everyone is welcome... and eveyone is welcoming. Truly the aloha spirit!
Has anyone confirmed with Kevin and his posse that it is happening? Last couple times I've been on Maui it didn't... and I'll miss this one, too cuz I'll be setting up the camp for y'all.

Julie! Of course I will miss you - you were supposed to be my platform-mate! There was to be song, laughter and beer late into the night! Waaahhh!
Reid, as far as the wave-worshipping on the ferry is concerned, it is a hard, hard thing to be an islandgirl living so very far away from the sea - gotta suck it up while I can... Hey - you have pictures? Share!
Mark, I emailed Kevin a few days ago to confirm about the kanikapila, but have not heard back from him yet. I will be most sad if they do not happen - I literally arranged the dates of the trip around them. (Yes, Karl - they are that good...)
19 days and counting!!!
