So after living in this beautiful country for some 45 years, I finally got all my ducks in a row and became a citizen. Yes, this last presidential election was my first, and darn it! I was right there with all the other wonderful folks excercising their rights. A spectacular day for me!
Tomorrow, we will drive our RV to Scotts Valley, the only town in Santa Cruz County with fireworks, and we will bring our ukuleles, our blender for the Margaritas, several chairs and some new friends who moved here from Iowa last year. Also, hopefully some old friends will show up, as we used to do this every year until budget cuts threw all the fun out of the window. I may get all choked up because I realize how blessed I am to be living here. Along with all the problems comes the freedom to be me, to buy property, to pay taxes, to work and thrive and attend government meetings (Board of Supervisors, etc.) and be generally safe and secure.
As a child living on several different continents, I can attest that America is the greatest place I've ever been to. OK, so it's not perfect, but I sure wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Happy 4th of July, everyone!
Dog, you especially!

Glad our cousins in Britain don't hold a grudge. But this weekend as we were watching the History Channel and they spoke of the huge number of British soldiers that fought against Geo. Washington's troops, I got to wondering.....how did a little country like England raise such a huge army and how they they also have such a huge navy at the same time? Was there forced conscription back in the day or would that many men be volunteers? |
