Mahalo Nui to Don Kaulia for inviting me to some truly amazing events this weekend. He and his friends showed me many new levels of music over the last three days... His performance at the Slack Key Festivals were upbeat and full of energy that infected the crowd. I was invited to back up Don's students with my Walkingbass. He has a core group who are really dedicated to slack key and several of them are TaroPatch members. They did Don proud!!

Keoki Kahumoku came up to me with a big grin on his face and asked me to join him and Moses Kahumoku on my lap steel during their set. Wow... they put me through my paces! Keoki's beautiful voice and Moses' blazing riffs (which were naturally enhanced by the slapback of sound off the Sheraton Hotel) produced a tidal wave of sound... Keoki's "Black Dog Blues" never sounded so good to me...

In the evening, Shirley and I came back to the Sheraton, and joined Don once again with L.T. Smooth, Walter Keale, and six other professional musicians for a couple more hours of music. Don's wife, Wendy was a really big hit with the audience. I had never heard her sing before. Her voice is smooth, powerful, and sultry!

Mahalo to all of you for showing me the next level of music and performing.

And there was this great picture/article on the front page of West Hawaii Today of Konabob, Moses and Keoki Kahumoku. All were in great form this weekend.

Mahalo Don for a very special workshop. I appreciate the sharing of culture along with the music. I really enjoyed the entire experience and your generosity in putting us on the stage!!

I am really glad to see that Moses is back! I hope that he starts making CDs again soon.
