Reservations/Information: (626) 398-7917

Join us at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena on September 20 at 7:00 PM as "slack key" guitarists Jim "Kimo" West and T. Dan Hofstedt take you to the Hawaiian Islands via the enchanting and lilting sound of ki ho'alu.

Jim "Kimo" West has performed at many of Hawaii's slack key festivals as well as the Southern Claifornia Slack Key Festival in Redondo Beach in both 2008 and 2009. A winner of the Hawaii Music Awards and Na Hoku Hanohano (the Hawaiian "Grammy") nominee, Kimo is known for his unique style, original tunings and "nahenahe" sound. He also is a composer for film and TV and has released four CD's of original slack key compositions and arrangements. He has toured and recorded for years as "Weird Al" Yankovic's lead guitar player.

O'ahu native "T. Dan" Hofstedt plays slack-key infused with his rich personal experiences growing up in Hawaii and will be sharing some of his many original songs. He was recently featured in two sold-out performances at the Coffee Gallery in a unique show of Hawaiian "pidgin" English stories and slack-key guitar with Hawaiian storyteller and comedian Kamaka Brown called, "If Can, Can- If No Can, No Can."

Tickets $20 ($15 if you are wearing "aloha attire")

It's a great little venue for acoustic music. I've seen a few acts there, including Lawrence Juber the great fingerstyle guitar player (former lead guitar player of Paul McCartney's "Wings"). There are a bunch of burlap coffee bags scattered strategically around the room that actually function as sound dampers, as they are filled with foam. Nice acoustics! It holds about 50 people so there's not a bad seat in the house. Sound is great and the people that run the place are super friendly. Make reservations! Hope to see you there! Mahalo,

Mitch: I drew that a long time ago when it WAS all black ( |:^ )}
Mika ele: It went well...Good crowd all saving $5 by wearing da kine shirts...Nice nahenahe evening and a fun vibe from the crowd...
I opened and played 35-40 minutes, then Kimo joined me for two of my originals, then we took a break to sell CD's & coffee and smoothies and Taro Ice Cream (?) ...Then Kimo did his 40-45 minutes, I joined him for two, then he closed with a couple more. A very nice night. We were invited back for a December show, so I guess we get another chance to get it right.... How's the Kaisen's hui?

LOL...LOL...LOL... Thanks T-Dan it looks great, sorry I couldn't make it out there to see you play, we were at a Pacific Islander Fest in OC that day, and just couldn't swing it out there..(sigh...sob!) really wanted to go too. I hope I can catch the December show....it'll be cold in AltaDena in December, maybe we can get $5 off if we wear a heavy coat? Oh yeah...I forgot about the signature guitar...did you know I'm up to 100 signatures on it now....there's still a bunch of people I'm hunting down.
Yeah, the hair is getting grayer, Yikes!!! but it adds to the "old hawaiian" look. nuk-nuk
