This Friday through Sunday, it's the 15th annual E Hula Mau Hula and Chant competition, the only one of its kind in Southern California. It's three days of hula, mele (song), arts, crafts, food, and fellowship, held in the beautiful Terrace Theater of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - participating halau come from all over the mainland United States.
Maunalua will be playing for the Saturday night "Mahalo Bash" so be sure to get your tickets for that. The E Hula Mau folks saw them at the last Southern California Slack Key Festival and knew they wanted to have them perform this year at their event.
It is my understanding that Cyril Pahinui will also be there to teach a slack key guitar workshop but it is not listed on the website although I know for a fact that he will be here. For more info on that, probably best to contact E Hula Mau peeps at info @ namamo.org (Na Mamo is the organization that puts on the hula competition)
For more info about tickets and the event, visit this link http://budurl.com/elmj

Sorry for the late notice but finally found the info for Cyril's workshop in Long Beach in conjunction with the E Hula Mau hula competition - it'll be Saturday, September 5th (tomorrow) from 10:00AM-12:00PM. But I don't understand why they're not listing more information than that. In any case, you can email ehminfo @ ehulamau.org and visit their site: www.ehulamau.org |
