I'll be on the big island and Oahu later this month. Can anyone recommend the most interesting music stores for a wide variety of instruments, etc.? Thank you.

If you like ukuleles, visit the KoAloha Ukulele Factory near the CostCo in Honolulu. It is always very informative and interesting to tour the shop and see raw wood transformed into beautiful instruments -- plus . . . Pops Okami's talk-story is one-of-a-kind! |

I'll second the recommendation for KoAloha. Call for the tour. You won't regret it! |

Don't forget to visit Hilo Guitars & Ukulele on the other side of the island. A bit of a drive but very scenic, and the sttore is well worth it. |

On windward Oahu is Honolulu Ukulele and Cracked Seed Company. Instruments and snacks-gotta be good, right? Don't know if they got beer. Unko Paul |

Jimmy, Hawaii Music Supply in Wahiawa carries R. Taylor, McPherson, Collings, Breedlove. Probably the nicest selection of high end acoustics in Hawaii. It's a nicely set-up shop. Andrew, the owner, is super nice. http://hawaiimusicsupply.com/
For cool gear, definitely Dan's Guitars in Honolulu. They have Composite Acoustic guitars (very interesting instruments, I own 2). They also sell great gear like Analysis cables, AER amps, X2 wireless guitar systems. Uke selection is also big. If there is a new cool piece of gear on the market, Dan generally knows about it. I would say he supplies most of the professional musicians in town with gear (e.g. Makana, Zanuck, Kupaoa, Brother Noland, Ozzie Kotani, Jake). Dan is also a super nice guy. http://dansguitars.com/ |
