There was a post on the HSGA forum that I thought was interesting.

This was posted over there by David Matzenik and I thought some of us here might like to chime in. His original post read as follows:

"That's right folks, you don't even need to play guitar. Just tell us why you might be a Hawaiian Music Nut. I'll start the ball rolling.
"If you have ever played Mele Kalikimaka while still in your underpants before breakfast you might be a . . . . ."

My reply to his post was.

"You Might Be A Hawaiian Music Nut if.... on those nights you have trouble falling asleep, you think about Hawaiian Music, and before you know it you are in dreamland."

What's your relpy to the question:

You might be a Hawaiian Music Nut if.....

"The music of the Hawaiians, the most fascinating in the world, is still in my ears and
haunts me sleeping and waking."
Mark Twain

Well, I know for a fact that I am a Hawaiian music nut. When I had to go for an MRI after the mini-stroke, it is a noisy, noisy contraption. To help divert your attention from the noise and perhaps to help soothe the anxiety of laying so still inside this tube contraption pounding awya, they will give you headphones with your selection of music channels for your listening pleasure. I could listen to new age elevator music or "easy listening favorites". I chose nothing and started imagining myself singing Hawaiian music. I went through as many of Dennis Kamakahi's songs as I could remember, then went on to all the "pua" songs I could think of, and then all the hula songs I could think of and then songs with an animal in them and then mele pana and so on until the darn noisy test ws pau. I made sure to tell them that they should offer soothing nahenahe Hawaiian music and they would never have a freaked out patient ever again.

I hope I never find out if they did or not. I do not want more of that machine.

Wanda, go back to the MRI place with an Ozzie Kotani cd so they can play it for their patients. You just might save someone's life.

I had some knee surgery a while back, and they told me I could bring a tape & headphones to use during the operation. I brought Ledʻs Black Sands. After the operation, the anaesthesiaologist made a special trip back to see me. He said, "I donʻt know what you had on your tape, but apparently you REALLY like it!".

Probably not a good idea to tap your feet during a knee operation, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

You might be a Hawaiian Music Nut if...

... Hawaiian music CDs, books and DVDs are taking over your house.
... after a concert, you have to stay two hours longer to buy more CDs and hug everyone.
... you stay up until 3am watching Pakele Live.
... you've discussed at length whether you should sing "oh-na oh-na" or "oh-now-na."
... you spend more time at Honey's, Aku Bone, and [insert your favorite venue here] than at the beach.
... Auntie Maria knows you by name and credit card number.

... you schedule your wedding for a Wednesday so that you can spend the first few days of your honeymoon at a Hawaiian music camp.

... you can't watch Auntie Wanda's this week's You Tubes without picking up a guitar and singing along (even though it scares the dog).

You not only know where KKCR is located, you have the decal on your guitar case and the station bookmarked.
