Backstage at the Merrie Monarch – 1994 – I was so excited to see this, because this is My and Unko Paul’s kumu hula!!!!! This segment shows Halau Mohala `Ilima and kumu hula Mapuana de Silva as the halau prepares for the competition. It explains some of the history as to how they researched “No Ke Ano Ahiahi”. Chicken skin for real. And Uncle Kihei has PLENTY hair back then.

And 12 years later, here is Kapalai`ula de Silva dancing to “Hanohano Wailea” at the 2006 Merrie Monarch. The mele was written by her father, Kihei de Silva, (and music by Moe Keale) in order to preserve the place names that were disappearing rapidly from the places they love surrounding their windward O`ahu home.

Well Wanda, since you are so smitten with Mike Keale, how about a "Hana Hou".

Just a beautiful voice and feeling of Aloha.

Hey Wanda

Here's one of Taropatch.net member Claudia Goddard's YouTube debut. She didn't want to share it here because it's not a Hawaiian song. If you haven't heard Claudia sing before you'll be blown away by the power in her voice.
