The thread about Mike Keale reminds me to tell all of you to keep an eye/ear open for Uncle Ray's nephew Kekoa Kane. Bruddah lives in Waiahole, back in the valley behind the old Waiahole Poi Factory. (Now open for plate lunches on Fridays!) He's extremely talented on the uke and has an amazing falsetto; also happens to be one helluva nice guy.
I've had the pleasure of backing him up a few times. First time I heard him I advised him to start practicing acceptance speeches for all the Hoku awards he'll win someday.

I forgot to mention -- Kekoa does both traditional Hawaiian and also Jawaiian, and he's fantastic at either one. He's got a couple of videos on YouTube (just Jawaiian, sadly), including one from 2008 Brown Bags To Stardom where he apparently won Best Male Vocalist.

I found a video of him on Google Videos too -- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-534395557844161608# . It's Jawaiian again (ack!) but it shows off his voice really well, especially the incredibly high notes at the very end. He's obviously a natural on stage, too.
Nice footage of Kaneohe Bay, too.

Even though I do not particularly care fir Jawaiian style music, I actually enjoyed this. He indeed, is talented. I sure would like to hear some traditional music, as well. But it is good that he has it in his heart. As he matures, he will come back to that foundation. Mahalo for calling that to our attention.
