Thanks for the heads up on the website. I was out of town---playing the Lebanon, Oregon Aloha Festival--when I learned of the problem.
Drove home & fixed it this afternoon. I tested it on a couple of browsers and it is working for me--though you may need to hit "refresh" to clear out any cached garbage.
It was yer basic robot miscommunication. Consider the robots duly spanked.
Sorry for any inconvenience. |

Is that a "virtual" spanking? Seems like the real thing would hurt you more than them. Hmmm-where have I heard that before? Unko Paul |

Little Pastries!!!
Actually, Mark, if there is any way you could find out what tuning Alan Akaka will be teaching, that would be helpful. I am woefully, inadequately trying to reach a truce with a tuning I can live with. I'm still trying to think: I CAN DO THIS!.
(That's what I thought at Lark Camp when I tried out my new 170 bass Accordion under the tutelage of darling Elizabeth...)
HAH!

quote: I am pretty sure Alan will be teaching C6, Julie.
He plays almost exclusively in C6. He will be teaching a couple of classes--one beginning and one slightly less so.
I'd imagine he might want to teach B11 in the more advanced class for anyone who wants to learn it. B11 is almost the same as Geri Valdriz's A6th.
I'm thinking about retuning a whole step down from B11, so someone can say, "Please don't play A11!"
And yes, you can do this, Juile. You have a very good ear, and that is 3/4 of the battle.
I won't comment on those little pastries. |

I called the hotel to register today, but they disavowed any knowledge of the special room rates. Even the Manager was clueless, so to speak. Any help would be appreciated. Am I calling the wrong #? |

Thanks, Jean.
It is sometimes a tad unclear at the front desk. The keyword is "Group" as in group rate, group discount, Aloha Camp group.....that sort of thing.
But, not to worry, one of the things your fearless camp admin bloke does is check with the hotel during camp to make sure everyone registered gets the discount, regardless of when they made the reservation.

Michael,
I havenʻt made my hotel reservation yet, but for the past 2 camps, ʻDianeʻ in group sales was very helpful regarding the discounted camper rates..... |

I have made the reservation and will be arriving on the 4th. The person I spoke to had absolutely no knowledge of any groups at that time. :-) I'm sure everything will work out. I'm not concerned. Just looking forward to late Jan. We'll be spending a week in Maui and then coming over on the 4th. Then back to Maui till March. See you all in Feb. |

Aloha all -
If you are planning on attending the February Aloha Camp–or even if you aren't–check out our on-line store for camp T-shirts, tote bags and other handy items. Remember, we do not carry all of these items at camp, so be sure to order early. Your purchases help support the camp, so you'll feel good while you look good.
This year's design features a beautiful watercolor from our friend, Hilo artist (and dancer, and songwriter, and welder and first class biker-babe...) Leilehua Yuen.

This just in for our Hawaiian Steel Guitar teacher, Alan Akaka:
Aloha
Iʻll be teaching from the C6 tuning for everyone; and for the advanced students I am open to venturing in to the B11 or perhaps any other tuning that a student may want to learn.
For those who are taking my classes I highly recommend bringing a steel guitar instead of sticking a nut extender on your acoustic. (Editorʻs note: Thatʻs because you will have to restring an acoustic to be able to tune it to C6)
For those without a steel I suggest going to www.musiciansfriend.com and searching for the Rogue lap steel that retails for between $80 and $100. The steel comes with a gig bag and legs. Most of my beginning students purchased the Rogue and are very happy with it. Imagine this steel is less expensive than many guitars and ukuleles and at Musicians Friend free shipping may be available depending on $$ spent.
Iʻll bring bars, picks and steel guitar string sets to sell.
If you will be needing strings, picks or bars, please let me know before the camp.
So there you have it: C6 for sure, and maybe the mighty B11 for the brave.
Donʻt forget a small battery powered amp to go with that steel!
If youʻll be needing supplies, write me in care of the patch--or via the usual channels and I will pass on the word to Alan.
Counting the days.

Hey Mark,
I checked out the aloha camp store and tried to remember when exactly the last camp on Moloka'i was....
Man, that was a special place. Any more news from that section of the islands? Are they making any headway with plans for the property?
