My, my, my, what a wonderful selection of music this week. There is something for everyone I am sure of that. A special mahalo goes to both Keonepax and Peter Moon, Jr. for making it possible for us to see these precious videos of Peter Moon and Dwight Kanae playing some wonderful music. I have been so pleased and fortunate to be able to see these videos that John so kindly shared. Thank you, Peter, for the blessing from your `ohana and for wanting to share your father's music. Mahalo piha.

Jesse has become Led's regular bass player, and Led's sister Leimomi is playing the uke. The song is "Under the Double Eagle," an Austrian march that has evolved into a bluegrass flatpicking solo.

This is probably closer to what Wagner had in mind.
But-does this make Led an Austrian musician?

What's really interesting about UDE is that pickers, including Led, only play the trio to the march. That form of UDE started with Bill Boyd & His Texas Ramblers in the mid 30's (from San Antonio, where there are a lot of German speaking Czechs and UDE was an Austrian Empire march), then by other Western Swing bands, then by Doc Watson in the early 60's and then to bluegrassers. The folk process lives! btw, Led ran me through the ringer on UDE when I was playing with him and thumbs at the Kona Brewery. He lit off at a furious pace, and after 2x thru, looked at me and said "Take it!" Gulp, I thought, and then played it on the edge of my ability, but he liked it. The 2 parts are in different keys, ya know. Thumbs did ok, too, soloing.
