~~~ There Will Be Spontaneous Dancing In the Streets ~~~
Words and music about Hawai`i in response to the Fiftieth State's Fiftieth Year of Statehood.
There Will Be Spontaneous Dancing in the Streets: The Honolulu Star-Bulletin ran this headline in anticipation of Hawai`i’s Statehood in August, 1959. Island-born writers and musicians, now transplanted to the Pacific Northwest, will play music and wala'au (talk story) about island life and history. Featuring open musical kanikapila (jam session) after the scheduled performances.
Monday, May 10, 2010, 7:00 PM
Richard Hugo House, 1634 Eleventh Avenue, Seattle, WA, 98122
Free and open to the public. All ages welcome.
Hugo Café will be open for purchase of beer, wine, and pupus.
With Hawaiian slack key guitarist Sheryl Akaka and writers Rochelle delaCruz, Jennifer D. Munro, and Loreen Lilyn Lee. Hosted by Uncle Gregg Porter of Hawai`i Radio Connection on KBCS 91.3 FM. Part of Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Month and funded by 4Culture King County Lodging Tax and Richard Hugo House.
