Aloha Kakou... I hope all is well.
It has been an incredible year...extremely exciting with much sadness, too. The day after Thanksgiving, my mother died from severe dementia...She was only 78. The last two weeks she went very quickly downhill. I was there everyday to the very end or shall I say the beginning of her new journey...I sang to her, talked to her and just sat quietly with her. It was an incredible experience to watch a loved one die in this way...it will take time to get beyond it.
Our extremely exciting news...In October, Kimo & I became Tutu Kai & Papa Kimo-we have a beautiful granddaughter...our first!
In December, we finished building our new recording and concert/dance studios. In January, I was able to start singing again...(my mom drained me emotionally). It feels great to sing and dance fully again...without so much sadness.
Our third CD - "Ka Makani" will be released the end of this month. Kimo & I are doing it all this time...recording, producing and performing. Kimo is playing (at last count) 14 different instruments on it. It feels wonderful to have total control over the finished product. Extremely exciting!
Our trip to Kaua'i this year (June 24-August 12) includes many wonderful events. We are also doing our annual Kimo & Ka'iulani Benefit Concert for the Kaua'i Museum. This year it includes a CD Release Signing at the Museum. www.kauaimuseum.org
Our son, his wife and our mo'opuna will join us on Kaua'i for 9 days which will be wonderful!
August 15 - 21, I will be solo on Oahu. I am still trying to talk Kimo into coming to Oahu with me-we have a performing opportunity. Anyway, I will be with my Kumu (Mapuana de Silva) for 5 days...yay!
I wish you all well and if you are on Kaua'i this summer or Oahu...PLEASE look us up! 585-313-1195 (cell)
