Nothing wrong with that tune---we played it at the Steel Guitar Fest jam, you noticed. led by Alan Akaka. Good chord changes, cool melody, and interesting form.

I like the idea of this list, and I hope some more hot dog steel players chime in. Cuz then I'll know the tunes I gotta learn.

Couple of my favs:

Blue Hawaiian Moonlight
Lovely Hula Hands
Maile Swing
Moana Chimes
I'll Weave a Lei of Stars for You
Sweet Lei Lehua
Wehiwehi Oe
Moon of Manakoora-- one of the great evocative "South Pacific" melodies whoever wrote it.

and, of course: Aloha Oe....

I just sat down and workd on "You Were Wearing a Blue Lei". Like "Moon of Manakoora", the melody line is a bit harder than lots of songs, but since they are legato, I have half a chance of getting it right. Really nice for steel.
Maile Swing - yes! And some day I do have to teach my band "How'd Ya Do". We need some more instrumental numbers for when the singers start to give out...

Hey KonaBob!

I can play "Blue Lei" but on my ukulele. We should get together and play it some time! You sing...

And speaking of Little Grass Shack, Todd Weger of the Haole Kats plays a very nice break on their CD Lei'd Back. I think he was using an amplified reso guitar, which gives the tune that funky old-time sound but with plenty of sustain. His fills are very jazzy too.
