Salt water would be pretty tough on string life and the tuning machines. Perhaps this is a new marketing oppotrunity for Elixir and similar coated strings.....
Just imagine jamming some slack key along with whale songs while underwater.
Watching the video I had flashbacks to ice diving in Lake Superior. |

I once went diving off the coast of Cleveland, Ohio (Middle Bass Island in Lake Erie, before the floor of the winery collapsed during a polka fest). I saw the most amazing and colorful collection of beer cans, old tires, bricks, and broken bottles that I have ever seen. I also saw lamprays, the ugliest fish I have ever seen. It gave me an Erie feeling. My only regret is that I didn't have to chop a hole in the ice to see all of this. Now that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is up in that area, there must be much more to see when diving. Maybe some of the Whos' busted up guitars, or boxes of Aerosmith merch.

Here's Uncle George Kahumoku slack key jamming (albeit above water) with a whale on his original song "Mele O Kohola": http://www.whalesong.net/sounds/MeleOKohola.mp3 . This is from my buddy and fellow slacker Dan Sythe's Whalesong Project, http://www.whalesong.net/index.htm .

But those Lake Erie Islands got famous when Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs went there and got puked on by birds, I think some type of cormorant. And I think he helped gather some snakes, too. I only ever went to Put-in-Bay and went up in the Perry Monument. And there is a winery that is inside a giant geode. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is right in downtown Cleveland, about 80 miles from the islands. I saw Janis Joplin's car, and some outfits that Mick Jagger wore. Boy was he ever little and skinny. And I mean skinny. Cool stuff at the Rock Hall. Except that Pink Floyd stuff. Hurts my ears. |
