This week on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis we are proud to host a release party for Mike Keale’s debut album, Remember. Mike’s special guests will be the group Nā Hōkū Pā, and [Walt] Keale.

Closely related to several of Hawai’i’s most beloved musicians (he’s the nephew of Moe Keale, a first cousin to Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, known to many as “IZ,” and a first cousin to Walt Keale, a member of the popular, award-winning band Kaukahi and a successful solo artist in his own right), Mike has definitely inherited the family’s musical talent – as evidenced by his debut recording. He is frequently compared to his Uncle Moe in both appearance and for his vocals, and although he’s very flattered by those compliments, he remains very humble, saying, “I can’t help what I look like, and when I sing, it just comes out that way.” A favorite quote from his Uncle Moe is “Whatchu waiting fo?” – something Mike has never forgotten, as it was his uncle’s way of urging him to share his gift of music with the world.

Mike’s mother, Maria, also had a significant amount of influence on his musical abilities and preferences. She was an entertainer who loved to sing, and she sang frequently to her children as they were growing up. Her influence can be heard in much of Mike’s music, as the songs she sang to him such as God Bless My Daddy, Fools Rush In, and Pua Carnation, not only remain close to his heart, but in his set list as he performs for audiences around the state and on the mainland.

Mike has shared stages with his Uncle Moe, his cousin Israel, Melveen Leed, Uncle Willie K, and many others, all of whom have complimented him on his “nahenahe” (sweet, melodious) voice. His audiences whole-heartedly agree, and are further endeared by his humble, gentle nature and his obvious spirit of aloha.

Join host Tony Solis at Pakele Live! on Thursday, July 1 from 6-8 p.m. HST in the Pakele Lounge at the Ala Moana Hotel (410 Atkinson Dr., Honolulu). There is no cover or minimum, although your purchase of two drinks or soft drinks helps ensure the continuation of the Pakele Live! concert series. All ages are welcome, and free parking is available next door at Ala Moana Shopping Center.

You may also watch the show live online at: http://www.pakelelive.com/

(If you watch online, please email the show at pakele @ lava.net and let us know you’re watching! Mention your name and where you’re located - city, state – or country, if outside the U.S.!)
