There realy isn't much in the way of Hawaiian style music on the east coast that I have noticed. I'm in New Jersey. Even though I'm right next to the shore - Seaside Heights, and it's very sort 'carny' touristy and sort of a cultural wasteland. Never heard o anyone playing any Hawaiian or 'island' style music, only top 40 etc anywhere you go.

Any body out there?

There are some east coast musicians playing Hawaiian music in NJ, NY and CT. There are some in the Washington, DC area too.

Do you ever get up to New York? Keep an eye out for a future slack key workshop. Nothing planned right now but hopefully in the future. Check the community events calendar at www.halawai.org.

Alice,

Seaside Heights, huh? My mother-in-law lives in Toms River for 9 months out of the year, and for the other 3 months she lives on 4th Street in Seaside Park (actually, Berekeley Heights, just before you enter Island Beach State Park). So let me know when you need Hawaiian music and I will just come play at your house.

Oh, by the way, I live 40 miles away in the state capital.

Malama pono,

Bill

@ Andy This great news! I'm glad to know there arre still people with good musical taste around ;)

A workshop would be brilliant! NYC is rather far for me because of my health unfortunately. But I will be seing a new Lyme specialist this week and hopefully on the way to functioning better.
I will keep my eye on that link though. My daughter goes to school there and mabee could take me if I feel up to it.

@ Bill Thats where I live -Toms River! Well I am having a Potluck Luau on the Mermorial day weekend and would love some entertainment and jam ( is Kanikapila the correct Hawaiian word for this?) if you happen to be visiting :) I have a homemade outdoor tiki bar and fire pit though with this drought the fire may be artifcial this time.

Your welcome too Andy, of course , email me if interested.

Alice
