Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners Weldon Kekauoha, Ku’uipo Kumukahi, Mailani Makainai, and Maunalua are coming together to support the family of an icon to many in Hawai’i – Shunsuki Ikeda, better known as long-time superhero, Kikaida-01. He also played Science Officer Takeshi Minami in the popular series, “Return of Ultraman”.

Ikeda-san passed away in June, and his dying wish was that his ashes be scattered here in Hawai’i, a place and whose people (especially the children) he loved with all his heart. However, due to the tremendous number of unpaid medical bills left when he passed, his family in Japan cannot afford to make the trip to Hawai’i to carry out his final wishes.

To honor the memory of this man who brought so much pleasure for so many decades to the children of Hawai’i, both young and young at heart, and to show our appreciation to his family, Pakele Live! with Tony Solis is proud to host this special evening of music by some of the top artists in Hawai’i.

Weldon Kekauoha – known for his beautiful vocals (his version of “Queen’s Jubilee” is a fan favorite), Nā Hōkū’s “Most Promising Artist” of 2000 is a former member of the award-winning Mana’o Company and has won awards for his solo albums as well, of which there are three. He is currently working on his 4th album.

Ku’uipo Kumukahi - the “Sweetheart of Hawaiian Music,” she’s won “Female Vocalist of the Year” honors several times (in addition to her many other Nā Hōkū awards). One of her albums received an unprecedented 9 Nā Hōkū nominations in 1994, and garnered 5 awards. Ku’uipo is the current President of the Hawai’i Academy of Recording Arts.

Mailani Makainai - best known for her collaborative efforts as a member of the hugely popular, award-winning duo Keahiwai (who released five albums), Mailani’s debut solo album earned her Female Vocalist of the Year honors in 2010. She is currently at work on her second solo album.

Maunalua – this popular trio (perennial local fan favorites who also have a huge fan base in Japan) has won Nā Hōkū awards for each of their three albums. The harmonies of Bobby Moderow, Jr., Kahi Kaonohi, and Richard Gideon bring an energy and style to the stage that is unmatched by any other. They are currently working on their 4th album.

Please join host Tony Solis and this stellar lineup of entertainers for what promises to be a great night of entertainment! This is a free event to help raise funds to bring “Kikaida-01” (Ikeda-san) to his final resting place. There will be a number of raffle prizes, including a KoAloha ‘ukulele, a Canon camera, guitars, an IPod Touch, and more! All proceeds will go to Ikeda-san’s family.

This special Pakele Live! with Tony Solis will take place Thursday October 21 from 6 to 8pm HST in the Pakele Lounge at the Ala Moana Hotel (410 Atkinson Dr., Honolulu). All ages are welcome, and free parking is available next door at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
