My wife and I are leaving for Hawaii tomorrow and I am interested to know if there are any slack key events going on through the week in Honolulu. We moved away 15 years ago to Atlanta and get back every few years. Thanks in advance for any recommendations anyone may have.
I started learning kihoalu about 4 years ago after hearing that it was dying out as the young in Hawaii were not interested in it.

Every evening, there is wonderful music to be had at the Kani Ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. I know for sure Tuesdays is Weldon Kekauoha, Bryan Tolentino & Alika Boy Kalauli IV; Wednesdays feature Cyril Pahinui; Thursdays feature Kawika Kahiapo and Martin Pahinui and I am not sure who plays there the other days, but check their web site, I am sure they tell you.

Thursday nihts at the Waikiki Marriott features the Keawe `Ohana at the Moana Terrace. This is Aunty Genoa's `ohana, prominently featuring her grand-daughter, Pomaika`i Keawe Lyman.

There is also wonderful music every night at Chai's Island Bistro at the Aloha Tower. Mondays feature Jerry Santos. You may also find Robert Cazimero there a couple times a week - once alone playing piano and the other day with Roland making their sweet harmonies. I highly recommend Chai's for a very special evening out. The music is free, but the food is not. $$$$$

Friday's at lunchtime, there is great music at Nicos on Pier 38. Wonderful plate lunches and fantastic music. You may find some of our TaroPatch `ohana playing music there.

Have fun!

Welcome to the 'Patch!
Slack Key Sundays at The Marriot Waikiki, featuring George Kuo, and his guests, usualli Martin Pahinui, Bobby Ingano and Aaron Mahi.
Call the Waikiki Elks club & see who they have scheduled, or maybe they have a web site. We saw Mike Ka`a`awa, Analu Aina, and Eddie Kamae a year ago. They also play Sunday afternoons at Honey's at the Ko`olau Golf Club, usually with Paul Kim on steel.
Take a guitar or ukulele, pick a beach, and sit and play. Sooner or later, someone will join you. Possibly several somebody's.
Next time, try to give more notice. You never know what info somebody will turn up. Have a good trip.

Oh yeah, - don't forget Honey's at the Ko`olau Golf Course on Sunday afternoon to see Eddie Kamae and friends and then in the evening on Sundays, can go to Kona Brewing Co. in Hawai`i Kai to see Led Kaapana.

Every one of these musical performances is FREE, manuahi. All you need to do is patronize the restaurant or lounge, which you would probably be doing anyhow.

I will definitely see Led at Kona Brewing, it is only a couple of miles from my sister-in-laws place and will be there on SUN. Honey's also sounds good, we don't like the Waikiki scene much, in fact we stay at the Ihilani but now that there is another hotel under construction next to the Ihilani, I will have to find another hide-away. Mahalo plenty for the recommendations.

If you're in Hawaiʻi Kai, check out Bluwater Grill (Tuesday). Ask to sit outside near the music with Kāwika Kahiapo and Walt Keale. Enjoy Kāwika's kī hōʻalu and smooth vocals. When Walt sings, close your eyes and hear Uncle Moe coming through.

I noticed that the website is down... so call first (808) 395-6224.
