I have such a great opportunity coming up this weekend.
I have been invited to play as a guest for a Christmas celebration put on by my classical guitar teacher and I will be playing for approximately two hunderd people. I did not take lessons this semester btw, but will start again this spring semester.

Anyway, everyone else will be playing Christmas songs, but me, as a guest, I get to play slack key. I have chosen to play Kamalani O'Keaukaha as arranged by Ozzie. It is in a modern slack key style. Folks in my area have been listening to me play slack key and are finaly begining to hear it. I expect it will go well and I am excited to be the only one playing the most beautiful music in the world.

I expect to be nervous--AS ALWAYS, but I think I am finally moving away from the fear of playing and into the anticipation of playing.
Looking forward to it this time.

Bob

You are not acting in a stage play (per se), so I cannot say "Break a Leg!", so instead I will say "Break a String!"

Seriously, good luck on your performace and may the butterflies never visit.

congrats on scoring that gig!
don't be nervous, just be yourself
Something you might try is some stretching and relaxation exersises before you go on. i find this helps temper the excitement so you can play good , and fluently.
Good luck and have a great time :)

Thanks everyone!

Yes, Andy, my expectations and confidence have been moving in the right direction--thanks to this site, and a great classical guitar teacher.

No worry, just do your best and have fun. The audience is rooting for you.

As I've said before, music is subjective. You know what you are trying to do, but the audience doesn't. They'll miss most of the times you don't get out what you wanted. So, go and have a good time.

Thanks again everyone.
Actually, nerves is not my major issue this time around.

I have done so many mediocre performances that I am fed up with mediocrity! I want to go kick some okole this time. I have the right song (a beauty) and good enough chops to play it from the heart, and to say I am ready is an understatement. Maybe that sounds a little egotistical--I hope not--but I am getting impatient and it is time.

Is that confident enough for any of you guys? LOL!

That is only really true if used in the New Jersey context:

....As in "yooze guyz".

Okay, here you go Wanda.

I barely got this one under my belt before the event btw and was still making improvements up until the night before.
