ive been on and off this forum looking around for a few years now, and i just recently thought that id join in on the fun, and say hello to the fellow slack key players. Ive been playing slack key for exactly three years on chrismas day, cause thats when i received Ozzie's how to play hawaiian guitar book, the one with the cd. and thats pretty much the only style of guitar ive ever played. but i feel like im the youngest one on this thing. Im a freshman in college, up at seattle university, and just turned 18 in december. Live on Big I tho. (well i guess only for breaks)
anyways thanks for all the wonderful posts, i have learned a lot from just reading them, and im excited to actually be able to participate.

Aloha , Tyler! Oh boy! Auntie is so excited to find a young person playing slack key. And so good you have learned from Ozzie's book. Not a better kumu could be found that Ozzie, a man of great talent and aloha. But cheez, that means you've been playing slack key since you are 15! That is wonderful!!!! Timi Abrigo of the Abrigo `Ohana is 15 years old. He plays a mean slack key, kind of like Led Kaapana, another Big Island slack key player. If you search You Tube you can find the AbrigoOhana channel and listen to Timi.
Once again, welcome to TaroPatch, and please jump in a comment on some of these posts so we can get a young man's view on some of the things we old folks wala`au about. |

Welcome to the 'patch. There are quite a few slack key players and fans in Seattle. Hopefully, you can meet up with some to jam or go see a show. |

haha, auntie, 15 isnt that young to start playing. most kids nowadays start playing music from real young, like 7 and stuff like that. i have some friends who have been playing since 4, and they are good. But i figured that i was never to late to start, so i tried it, and ive loved it ever since. but i dont know anyone my age that plays slack key, not even a little. most people just play ukulele with surf, and hawaiian super man, haha things like that. cause they consider it a part of the culture. but i consider slack key more culturally hawaiian than that. and i just love the sound way more. :) |
