New newby here, and new to slack key.
Of the versions of Ka Ipo Lei Manu I've heard, I think this one of Dennis Kamakahi's is especially beautiful. Does anyone know what tuning he uses here?

I am not familiar with the song but I am almost certain he tuned to C Maunaloa...CGEGAE
BTW: you make some great looking guitars!

Welcome to the 'Patch. Reverend Kamakahi uses C6 quite a bit, and this version is in C, so that's pretty likely. He may chime in here himself and tell you. He recorded this on the album Pua Ena, and the liner notes give the tunings for all the songs. Not that this video is necessarily in the same key/tuning as the recording, though. When I retrieve Pua Ena from Auntie Wanda's car, I'll see what tuning he used there. Unko Paul |

Just so there is no confusion, Pat, C Maunaloa, Gabby's C, and C6 are the same. Fortunately, Dennis tuned every string in the video and so it was not hard to figure out. |

Seems that C Mauna Loa etc. it is indeed. I couldn't quite hear the tuning before.
I guess there's almost no end to tunings.
I hadn't heard it on the Pua 'Ena CD. Very sweet. It's on my list.
And thanks everyone for the welcome and info.
Haole Boy,
Thanks. Now a future project will have to be a guitar made for slack key!

The notes from Pua Ena say C6 tuned down to the key of A. The video is in C. Unko Paul |
