                      | Awesome idea & compilation Wanda. It never occured to me to search YouTube for songs I wasn't sure of how the melody went that were in He Mele Aloha book.
Being a longtime instrumentalist who for just over a year now started singing I never paid attention to the lyrics of Hawaiian songs.(Wat fo' I nevah sing?)So there are many songs that I'm familiar with the melody but sometimes don't even know the title of the song. Cannot count how many times I've heard people say "Eh how dis song go?" while browsing through the He Mele Aloha book.

                      | Wanda! You be wan busy wan, sistah! As for knowing lyrics, LEster Young said that if you don't know the words, you can't put the right emotion into the song. Even though I don't know Hawaiian, I always check the translation of the words so I know what it's about. Of course, I miss the double meanings for which Hawaiian is famous. My Hawaiian friends help me out there. |

                      | I used to go to Mele.com to find a song I never heard before. But the sound samples are so short, so I started using You Tube as a resource for songs we didn't know. That's how Paul learned "Ka Pili Aloha" to sing for Mapu and Kihei. But also that is where I have found plenty of resources for songs we have learned hula for as well.
I was so impressed with the vastness of Hawaiian music available on You Tube.

                      | Wow, this is quite a study. Very useful. A nice touch to have the actual composer performing where available. Thanks for sharing, Wanda!!! |

                      | Congrats Sistah, Ho man living in Cleveland you get plany time yeah? I give you won A. Your You Tube index should be used as serious reference for TP and others with an interest in Hawaiian music per se. Cross listing He Mele with the videos is a no-brainer, it was brilliant!!! Many here will now be able to hear the songs and see them performed within the context of a live performance, whether it is formal or informal, it doesn't matter, this makes learning the melody of the songs easier.

                      | Oh wow, Wanda-- this is the appendix that ought to have been in the back of that Big Blue Book in the first place. Thank you so much. If this is what comes from winter in Cleveland, then I'm sorry but I'm hoping for six more weeks of it. Guess that makes me a groundhog? |

                      | Oh, and by the way, Wanda-- you do realize that you have now created a Taropatch competition? I mean, someone needs to fill in those few blank spots in the list. Not saying I'll be the first to put "Ka Wiliwiliwai" up on YouTube ... but I'd like to be. |
