Toss a San Diego boy surfer/guitar player into a bunch of Hawaii surfer guitar players, and he grows up to be Rob Mehl, the latest addition to Hulaville's Hawaiian Concert Series.
Rob Mehl really does love life and for reasons that will become very obvious the more you listen to his music! It's fun, but mellow, folk style beach ballads and stories with a little bit of jazz. Robs family moved from Encinitas to Waikiki when he was eight years old, and he spent his youth moving back and forth between San Diego and Hawaii, surfing ever chance he had.
Musicians like Gabby Pahinui, Dennis Kamakahi, Kui Lee and Jerry Santos have influenced Rob. He has performed with Kirby Keough, Kenny Emerson, Keli'i Kaneali'i, Don Ho, Amy Hanai'ali'i Gilliom, Kawaika Kaahuapo, Martin Pahinui, Auntie Genoa Keawe and Kelly Boy DeLima. Rob plays guitar and ukulele, though not usually at the same time - and he loves telling stories in between songs, sometimes even between verses! Rob has recorded six CD's that are available on CD Baby and on itunes. www.robmehl.com $5.00 per person. Show starts at 8:00pm come early for ala carte dinner. Call 949 369 1905 for reservations.
