A few weeks ago I was on O`ahu on business and was looking for some good music one evening. I try to avoid Waikiki whenever I'm over there, but I found myself drawn by the sound of music.
Ku`uipo Kumukahi has a regular gig on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8pm at the Sheraton Waikiki. It is very tourist oriented, but worth it to hear some good music. Be sure and introduce yourself to Ku`uipo in between sets and let her know you play slack key. She added Hi`ilawe to her second set when I saw her to go a little beyond her usual tourist set.
Parking is free if you buy a drink. A $3.50 soda is worth it just to cover the parking.
So, if you find yourself in Waikiki on a Thursday evening, be sure and drop by and hear Ku`uipo.
