I consider myself a connoisseur of the world's finest beers, but haven't ever heard about any Hawaiian beers. Are there any? If so, what are they called and what style brews are they? Also, what is the hawaiian word for beer if there is one?

I'm not a connoisseur but I do enjoy a good pint. I was wondering, are there any microbreweries on Maui or the Big Island? (Yup, I'm beginning to plan itineraries for this year).

On March 13th at the King Kamehameha Hotel in Kailua-Kona is the Kona Brewer's Festival. As they say in the adverts, "30 breweries tap up 60 types of beer...and 25 restaurants dish up culinary creations...live music, hula, fire dancing and contests..."
There are lots of great beers made in Hawaii. I like to sample all the beers, shave ice, and ice cream that I find in every town. 60 beers might put me over the top!

Remember that Happy Days episode where Richie comes hope plastered:
Richie: "All we had was some glasses of beer in these teeny weeny glasses" Mr. C: "How many did you have?" Richie: "72"

Jeebus friggin gawd...
Would someone tell the poor boy, Chango, Kona Brewing Company, Longboard Lager.
Available on the left coast anyway, don't know bout Te'jas.
If yer gonna imbibe, make it a Longboard.
Islandboo herself showed me the light on this one! I was a poor wretch eye'n a Corona...
That is all, go Longhorns.

Whilst proofreading my tome for errors, I glanced above to see that Craig has ONE MILLION FRIGGIN' posts, or close to it anyway.
Hey Brah, you need to get out now and again.
We've a large contingent of TaroPatchers up here in the Bay Area. You, Dusty, Shiela, Bruce, Keith and Terr...uh, Chunky, et. al need to make a road trip.
That's what I'm thinking. Or the verse of vice.
Anyway...I am not a greenback endowed man, but I am rich. That said, I cannot make it to Molokai this summer, next summer I will. I think we need to start to plan for a Left Coast get together with all youse, uhh....SoCal types, with us normal folks.
Just a thought. Sometime in the coming year or so?
The Admirable and Pauline and those funky Seattle types need to be there too. It just wouldn't be wright wid'owd em.
I'll be quiet now.

Piff,
Grab a Southwest shuttle to SD for one of the I'a Nui gigs. I'll put you up if I don't have all my bedrooms filled with Hawaiians. You can meet all of us there.

I propose the we meet half way in between San Diego and San Francisco somewhar. (That would NOT be L.A.)
Lemme think... Somewahr's bout San Lui Obispo or Santa Barbara might fit the bill !
I am thinking a 4 hour drive from either location, which is actually faster than by plane (if you figure in the packing time, the arrive ahead time, the car rental time etc).
Example:
My mother-in-law lives in Medford Oregon. The total drive time is 6 hours whilst the total trip by plane takes 5 hours. And we don't need to pack carefully for the car, just throw all the sfuff in.
