Howzit Chango, As wdf mentioned, Primo left us. But it was already changing it's taste. When that left, there went the best of Hawaii's beer. German brew is the best. By the way, who's that who said "Go Longhorns"? Did'nt they duck out on playing our UH Warriors??????? Go Aggies(even though I can't stand Francione)...Keali'i K.GO WARRIORS!!! |

I made a detour to Maui last summer. Tasted much Hawaiian beer. Liked Longboard. Don't recall Primo (the beer of choice of my youth) being served. THE beer of Tahiti is Hinano (He Nah no). |

I have to agree with Konabob. Kona Brewing Co. has some of the finest beer Hawaii has to offer! "Fire Rock" & "Lavaman" for me My recollection of Primo as a youngster was all my uncles and aunties having kanikapila/talking story at parties with cans of Primo sprinkled throughout the room. Some of the greatest songs were written with Primo near by! |

Oh God Oh My God Konabob Please Please Send Me One Ticket And I'll Be There. Wheh. That being said, Melinda couldn't like the "fruit beer" with lilikoi better. My son Aidna usually knows most folks working there, so it's da best place in Kona to stop mid-day and talk story, and da inu pia is ono. No bullai! |

woof, this thread is squirming around like one mad puhi.
beer: there's some nice locally made beer at maui brews in lahaina town, in the lahaina center (where hilo hattie's is). they have okay live music, eclectic pub food, not much of a view, but good beer. hapa's in kihei used to make their own beer but i hear that they've stopped doing that. i like fire rock pale ale (kona brewing company). oh, i like hinano too, but i think it'd be cheaper to fly to tahiti and drink it there then pay what it costs elsewhere.
sd music scene: don narup (i`a nui himself) has done a lot to improve the kiho`alu climate here in san diego, and terry and mary have done a lot too. it's amazing what passion can do.
the north meets the south: sounds fun to me! santa barbara or san luis obisbo sound like good places to meet. coalinga might be more centrally located, but it lacks a bit in ambiance.
aloha, keith

Beer: Hoo yeah, I love that Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale! I indulged in 1 (or 2 or 3...) most every night on my recent visit to Maui. Can't find it on the mainland tho... I'll settle for a Corona then.
San Diego slack key: I sure had fun joining the So Cal Slack Key Society for kanikapila last summer! Great job guys!
N meets S: That's a great idea to have a north meets south kanikapila!!! I agree, some place closer to the Pacific would be a nicer atmosphere than COWalinga. Moooo!

Brada Steven E., Funny you mention the party's your ohana had with the "Primo" all over the place. I remember my Tutu wahine and Kane used to have those same ino party's with "Primo" and Schlitz malt, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Oly cans all over. My mom was one of the first "vendors" to crochet those beer can hats we would sell at the "Kam Swap Meet" in the late '60's and early '70's. That is when singing "Hemo Skin" and "Put the dishes in the sink" was good fun. A hui hou, Keali'i. |

kihoalu K., Did'nt you think those hats were a pretty ingenious idea? Whoever came up with it, had a good imagination.(Let alone a drinking habit with a little too much time on their hands.) My mom also made visors, too. I remember, if you walked around with one of those hats back then...you were the "bomb". A hui hou, Keali'i. |

I remember Primo as an, um, lighter beer. Then I started on South Pacs. Does it still exist? |
