Hi,
I am a long time fan of dance, most types, and music. I think the older ladies, kuma hula are so beautiful, there is nothing to hold a candle to them.
These young girls are pretty, but a mature dancer who has mastered her craft is phenomenol. I am going to the Merrie Monarch, if I can get scalped tickets. Since I heard about it I have been determined to go.
I am a dress maker(Irish dance solo costumes), needle artist, pre school teacher, wife , Mom, (number one sone is on a surf trip around the world for a year, started in Haleeva(sp) Ha. Australia, now New Zealand on then on to more countries. He also loves music and dance and got to go to Pacifica in New Zealand, a cultural festival there. He roomed with a women's dance troup, lucky girls, and said the whole dance thing was great.
Two daughters, one is an artist, www.hennacaravan.com
and the other is my championship Irish dancer.
My husband and I like to camp, listen to music and can't wait to get to Hawaii.
dance and music lovers,
mike and flavia

Wow, that's quite an artistic pedigree! Welcome to the TaroPatch from a bonafide Kiwi! (Living in the U.S. now.)

My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

I agree w/ cpatch! I used to be a dancer, and even bagan to scratch the surface of learning Hula when I lived in Mililani. If I'm not wrong, I believe the spelling you're looking for is Hale'iwa, or Hale'ewa, I can't remember exactly. That's kinda pathetic of me, since I used to spend most of my time there!

You might enjoy the DVD "Maiki Aiu Lake." She was a kumu hula who influenced many of the well known kumu teaching today. Beautiful profile showing some exquisite dancing.
