Aloha all!
I was homesick for the island (even though I only lived there a year), and stumbled on to this site, yay! I LOVE Hawaii and her people, and finally found a home for my wandering soul. No matter where I go, Hawaii just feels like home. I sometimes wonder if this offends the locals, who -as I remember it- cherish their heritage.
Now I live in Germany. The Germans almost have more rules to protect the forests and land than the Hawaiians do!
But I miss the breezes, perfect nights, Lanikai beach, Scuba diving, the smiles and Aloha spirit, and the FOOD! I'm looking for a recipe for Mana Pua. You know, like the ones sold at that 7/11 on the North Shore, coming out of Hale'iwa towards Schofield (or is it Hale'ewa?)
Can anyone help?

Welcome Corrina.
Are there any Chinese restaurants near you? You maybe able to find a manapua under the Chinese name char siu bao. We never make them though because we can just go to Chinatown - one benefit to being so close to New York.

Aloha Corrina, In '89-93, I was stationed in Fulda. Being from Hawaii, I had the most toughest time in the beginning. I was fortunate to hook up with some brada's and sista's from here and was able to "survive". Are you there in the military? I am so happy to be home. I had been in Washington State before and all but it was so difficult in Germany for me. I know you will find things, and someone, to keep you going. If you don't know already, they have some Hawaiian Music stations on the web. It might make you feel a little closer to home. Good Luck and A hui hou...Keali'i |
