Does anyone know if there are programs that will convert sound (like guitar playing) into tab? I've tried working with Guitar Pro without great success.

Thanks nui, Mark

There are programs that will convert MIDI to tab, but the problem is capturing the guitar playing as MIDI information. It's quite difficult to do well, so the poor MIDI info becomes poor tab.

Converting sound files into musical notation of any sort is one of the holy grails of computer science and musicians alike. While there are a few programs out there that have varying degrees of success with simple, single-note melodies there is nothing currently available (that I'm aware of anyway) that can convert even a simple polyphonic guitar piece.

My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.
