Aloha,
Does anyone know of any live Hawaiian music in Las Vegas from Dec. 19 through Christmas?

Hi Meghan,
I saw your post a couple of days ago and have a musician friend who lives in Las Vegas. So I posed your question to him and here's what he said:
"Not much Hawaiian music here during the winter months. Definitely no slack key, too many Eddie Van Halens walking the streets. There was a Nalani Olds concert over the weekend. She used to sing for the Royal Hawaiian Band. They have a few local reggae dives but I would not recommend the scene to anyone. The SOS play at Harrahs but in the afternoon @ 3PM. The casinos are all centered on the sports book events. They had NASCAR and the NFR rodeo last weekend. Hawaiian shows are non existent till March."
Sorry I didn't have any better news for you! I lived in Hawaii all my life but moved here to Olympia, Washington a couple of years ago. We're a bit more fortunate in that we have a couple of Hawaiian/slack key events coming up in January. Keola Beamer, John Keawe and Chris Yeaton will be here the 4th and 5th of January and we have a series of slack key and ukulele workshops in January as well.
Hope that something will turn up for you!

If you're really hungry for Hawaiian music, you might try the SOS afternoon show at Harrah's. While I wouldn't ever call them a "Hawaiian" group, they alternate venues between Hawaii and Las Vegas so they do have some Hawaiian content in their show ..... at least they did when I saw them play in Hawaii several times. Besides, they do have a very entertaining show.
Good luck, |

Meg this won't help you now, but I would like to announce that Ianui Productions will be presenting Hawiian Music concerts in the Las Vegas area starting next year. So all Taro Patchers coming to Vegas will be able to see the best Slack Key performers in the world. Watch for announcements here and on our web site at www.ianui.com
We will have a concert April 22 here in California at the Carlsbad Village Theater in Carlsbad featuring taro patcher Kevin Brown with son and daughter. |
