AN EVENING WITH KEOLA Sending Aloha from Hawaii
January 29, 7:00 p.m.
Felton, Calif. – Keola Beamer, celebrated arranger, composer, and premier slack key (ki hoé alu) guitarist from Hawaii, brings his special brand of contemporary Hawaiian music to Roaring Camp for the only Monterey Bay area performance on January 29th. Sharing the artistry of the hula is Moanalani Beamer plus other renowned slack key guitarists, John Keawe and Chris Yeaton. The Beamers are descended from an illustrious line of Hawaiian musicians and dancers tracing their roots to the 15th century descendants of King Kamehemeha and Queen Ahiakumai.
Hawaiian slack key is truly one of the great acoustic guitar traditions with its roots dating back to the 1830s. Keola’s unique approach of fusing traditional slack key with inventive contemporary music has brought a new awareness of Hawaii’s rich musical heritage to audiences around the world.
Guests arriving at Roaring Camp for An Evening with Keola will be treated to a special rail trip from the Roaring Camp parking lot to Bret Harte Hall aboard the restored and historic 1890 Baldwin Locomotive, which ran on the Kahuku Plantation in Oahu, Hawaii, from 1890 until 1947.
Performance begins at 7:00 p.m. Advance reservations are recommended as tickets are limited. Ticket price is $31 per person. For tickets, contact Blue & Gold Fleet’s TeleSails at 1-888-25EVENT.
Roaring Camp is in Felton, six miles north of Santa Cruz. Exit State Route 17 at Mt. Hermon Road, left at Graham Hill Road, then ½ mile to the entrance. For Information, visit www.roaringcamp.com.
