I'm a new ukester already wrestling with UAS. I'm jonesing on the Mele Koa Concert model or Lehau Traditional Blackwood concert. Any review/comparisons/thoughts/criticisms of either. I like to strum and fingerpick, and I'm currently playing a Lanikai LU-21C. Thanks!

Mele concert for sure. Better set-up, playability, resonance and value. Lifetime warranty, beautiful players. |

I'm thinking you mean Lehua Traditional Blackwood? I have a Lehua Kalo tenor , and for the price I paid for it ( < 180), I think it is is a great instrument..however I noticed that the price range you are at is around 380, so you may want to get the Mele, I hear that they are a great value.

PS: I was checking on the Ko'olau web site for strings and ran across their new line of Pono ‘Ukuleles. They seem to be in your price range, you might want to check them out:

I didn't get to try a Pono tenor when I was there in January, but the sopranos and the concert I tried were remarkable. Clean workmanship, excellent playability, and killer tone. These ukes are mahogany rather than koa, though, and they're pretty plain in appearance.
