Hi all,
Stealing from another thread here, Pauline says she's too lazy to bother and tunes all her soprano, concert, and tenor ukes in C. In going back through the archives of a well-known Down Under ukester on another site, he suggests that tuning a tenor to C soprano tuning would not only defeat the purpose of the tenor but also possibly put the structure of the uke in jeopardy.
Maybe I'm lucky in that I have a modern uke and it hasn't buckled under the string tension of C soprano tuning yet...so before I get that Martin or Gibson tenor (okay, Harmony maybe), I need to know: what is the totality of opinion our there about how to tune one's tenor? I know Lyle likes his down a 4th from sop, but not sure how widespread that is.
Help me out gang! Thanks, Jim

I tried the G tuning (or bari tuning or fourth down from soprano C) on my Martin tenor after reading that it was the original tuning Martin specified for the instrument. I wasn't that thrilled with the result. Unfortunately, Martin has stopped selling their tenor strings, so I made up a set of Worths with a high D and I'm ready to change. I like low G C tuning on tenors as a rule, or high G C tuning for those ukes that seem to prefer it.
