OK TPers - haven't been to Maui in 16 years. Headed there May 18 - 24 and looking for live Slack Key or traditional Hawaiian music. I haven't been paying attention, so I'll ask you all to respond again. Can't make the Tues Ritz gig with Uncle George K, et al. Planning on Sat in Waihe`e. Any suggestions for evenings? Thanks

Terry,
Sometimes they are right in Wailea. Check when you get there. Also, Hula Grill in Ka`anapali. If Ernie Pua`a is playing there and playing too much Jawaiian (with Brian), just wait 'til a break and talk to him. Of, course, tell him Kevin sent you :-) Ernie is yet another Wai`ehu son. OTW, there are sometimes others there as well. Try Blue Marlin in Ma`alea. No more Don, but who knows who is playing (except Boy, the very BIG guy). Maybe he asks you to play. Hapa Brew in Kihei is spotty, but look.
Shoot...shoulda told you before. Sorry.
BTW, Kevin probably knows what's up in a timely fashion.

Terry, you and I have been on the Mainland too long. "Central place"is not in the lexicon. Bamboo Telegraph, yeah? Maui News is published, but most of this week is Beethoven and friends.
I would try http://www.mauimenusonline.com/music.html
Looks like you got:
Lobby Lounge Four Seasons Resort Wailea 5:30-7:30pm Hawaiian Music
Mulligan’s on the Blue 100 Kaukahi Street Wailea 8pm Wailea Nights Barry Flanagan & Eric Gilliom - Thu and Fri
Moana Bakery & Café 71 Baldwin Avenue Paia 6:30pm Hula Honey’s Vintage Hawaiian Music
Don't get mixed up with Teen Night, would be one awful scene.
Enjoy, Brah,
Oh Yeah, I would do more 'cept Sarah is right now playing along with Slack Tracks Radio Hula and Salomila and... - AWESOME!!!!!
Go!

Aloha Terry! Have a wonderful time!! It's not so uncivilized there, there are lots of cyber-cafes, and they have on-line access at the library, at least in Kihei. n |
