I need to buy a uke for my son's birthday. He is 27 he does not play any musical instrument, but would like something not in the kids toy price range. Any suggestions would be helpful. We are in Ventura county, mahalo for your help

I LOVE my Akulele, http://akulele.com/ Lovely, projecting sound. I have a soprano, cost $250 on special at an expo. A Mele pinapple soprano is also nice, about $200, but not as nice IMO as the Akulele. Get a set of Nylgut strings for whatever you buy.
You'd have to amplify this one, it was inadvertently 'outed' before Rigk was ready to announce it, but this little solid body would make a great practice, travel, or plugged in uke if it sounds half as good as it looks, http://www.risa-music.de/English/Products/Solids/Uke-Ellie/uke-ellie.html |

If you'd like to come down to LA for 1/2 a day, Doug has a huge selection at Island Legends - that way you could play a number and see what you like. He also has strings and cases including Hawai'ian print ones. n |
