Talk about sublime to the ridiculous, we saw Patrick twice in the last week.
He was at Teja Gerken's Acoustic Guitar Showcase which Teja does each month at the Cafe Bazaar in San Francisco. Teja and Patrick shared the stage with a young blues bottlenecker, and all three were talented performers - but of course the ki hoalu was the best part. Patrick is a terrific singer as well as guitarist, and I was transported by his performances. I even got persuaded to do a number, and I think I surprised Patrick by doing one of his originals, "Monorail Slack Key."
Then on Friday he came to our town of Walnut Creek, where he played this incredibly LOUD sports bar/restaurant called, of all things, Tiki Toms. This was a full band show, but it didn't matter, because with the PA cranked all the way up we still couldn't hear squat.
Patrick tells me he is working up a tour in the fall with Cyril Pahinui, so if they come your way be sure to check them out.
