OK, here goes: I am amongst the already-submitted---sent Maunawili Medley (from Peter Medeiros' delightful post last year) and Moloka`i Morning (mine own)

I have submitted 'Remembering Gabby' and 'Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u'. My arrangement of the latter is probably not the same as Karl's, however. I play it in the Key of D with a tuning of D-G-D-x-A-D (The 'x' indicates any tuning, inasmuch as the 3rd string is never played during this arrangement). I made this arrangement myself in 1998, and I would be very surprised to find that someone else had made the same arrangement independently. So, I think that it would be very interesting to have the same song with different arrangements on the CD.

Part of the charm of ki ho'alu is that different tunings can be used for the same song, and that experimentation brings new arrangements. Each new tuning gives you, in effect, a new instrument.

Hi Jesse, I will attempt to email you a song for the CD. I hope it works. If not I'll snail mail it. Mahalo nui for all the time and effort it takes to tackle a project like this. I'd like to also thank the contributors to the CD. For without all of you there would be none. Alohas...

Still hoping to get something in on time, Jesse --- my studio plans (and first alternate) are falling through at this point, and I may not have another decent option. BUT, if it does come together, Lori & I plan to do "O Kamawaelualani" and "Ipo Lei Momi," as well as helping Kory on a couple tunes. =Gregg=

Thanks, Gregg. I'm looking forward to hearing your voices again.
And I think everyone will benefit if you can lasso that crazy Seattle slacker for five minutes and put some music onto a CD.
I've got perhaps 10 submissions so far and hoping everyone is able to come through with something, even one short song, to help fill out the CD set.

Although I haven't been able to contribute to the CD at all, I do plan on making some major updates to the TaroPatch Soundclick page (http://www.soundclick.com/taropatch) soon, so bear that in mind during the CD submission process. If you have a track that isn't ready in time for the CD, or that will be on the CD and you want to share it with the rest of the TaroPatch `ohana as well then the SoundClick page is a way to do it. The same criteria applies though: it has to be an original composition, an original arrangement of a public domain composition, or you have to have the arranger/composer's permission to post it.

I'll create a separate post after the CD is wrapped to get this going...first things first! And thanks to Jesse for taking the CD project on this year. I know firsthand how much work is involved (but also how much fun it is getting to hear all the submissions first!).

Craig
My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

Sorry I haven't got my submission in yet. Still trying to find someone who can listen to the headphones while I play. I think I have a lead on that. Will be Sanoe (public domain song by the Queen, in taropatch tuning) and one other - perhaps Ray Kane's 5 song medley. I'm hoping to get the recording done this weekend. LRR

It goes without saying, but I'm having a blast listening to everyone's submissions. Each person brings a unique style and viewpoint to slack key. He kamaha'o!

Hey Jesse!

I didn't think I could do this, based on my busy schedule, but is it too late to submit anything yet? I'm trying to get a friend to help record (and getting enough nerve to play my piece without goofing up too badly). If I can swing it by this next week, I can just squeeze in by the deadline. Thanks for doing all this work!

Don't worry, Maggie, we'll make sure you get in. It might be New Years before I get it out to the contributors, so we have a little leeway. I want to make sure everyone has a chance to get in, despite the deadline. I get such a kick out of each new submission, plus we have at least a half-dozen true first-timers taking part and I want them to have as much fun as the rest of us. Even if you haven't notified me yet, you can still send me something, just see the first post of this thread. Several people have emailed song files and it worked just fine. I'm at jessehj (at) adelphia.net
Leonard - It helps to have someone on the volume pot while recording, but you can set the volume and go for it and fix it in the mix, providing there is no obvious overmodulation. We are looking forward to hearing you music.
Thanks everyone for contributing. This CD will be filled with joy and aloha.
Jesse Tinsley

Mahalo Jesse for being so accomodating! You are the greatest! I hope my friend will be able to help me record before the deadline (it'll all be dependent on that, whether or not I will be able to submit anything). I will let you know before Oct. 1st for sure, ok?

Hi Maggie,
There's a slight chance I'll be in Eugene, Ore. on Oct. 1 for a conference at the university. Maybe I can help?
