10/5 press release from The Mountain Apple Company (distributor for most solo CD titles by Israel Kamakawiwo`ole)
Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo`ole's "Facing Future" album has just become Hawaii’s first RIAA Certified PLATINUM album, having sold more than 1 million CD’s in the United States. This honor is a result of all the people and businesses that have believed in IZ from the beginning. His music lives through you, the people of Hawai`i, whose support and belief in his music and aloha are the reasons why “Facing Future” is PLATINUM today.
IZ’s posthumous album, “Alone In IZ World” was awarded a coveted RIAA Gold Record in April 2005, less than three years after "Facing Future" was honored with that same award. The rest of the world is also discovering IZ. The licensing of IZ’s music has been an important part of this great achievement. IZ’s music continues to enhance products, films and TV shows in countries around the world.
The Mountain Apple Company and the Kamakawiwo`ole `ohana are humbled by the brilliant reflection of the reach of IZ’s music.

"Facing Future" is my personal IZ favorite album. And I still remember when we listened to it for the first time - one evening under the stars on West Maui.

Despite the eclectic choice of music on each of Iz' albums, "Facing Future" is the most cohesive. I played Iz' "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for several different people in the last month and as I played the intro, several said "Isn't that a commercial?" Jesse Tinsley |
