If they lose, it's because Raymond jinxed 'em, right here. |

Just a warning to all; don't let your fortunes get tied to the doings (or undoings) of others. It is totally out of your control, so don't go slitting your throat if whoever it is you like doesn;t make the grade. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT :> BTW who are these "White Sox" playing, the 49ers or the Penguins? (I obviously would have been killed by the Yanks in the WWII movies for not knowing the universal movie password of the day...."who won the series?" "Series? What ser..." BANG!!! ) |

I was 10 in '59, Luis Apparicio was my idol, and 'cause dad managed a bar that sold Hamms beer, I got to go to over half the games that season, including one of the series. Boo hoo Boo hoo |

I don't know how a guy in Alaska and a guy in in metro CT can have the same behavior patterns and outlook on life, Karl. Chunk and Raymond, both of whom I admire Big Time, associate themselves with people they would never associate with. Yeah, admit it :-)
So, everyone looks for heroes, but why these guys, Guys? I am not, in any way, more virtuous than anyone else - probably lots less. But, overpayed, overadvertised jocks? (Michelle Wies I can understand, because she is almost as talented and lovely as Sarah :-)
Shoot, my older son was an Allstate soccer fullback and 220 champ and General George Patton Tanker of The Year. Didn't prepare him for Life one bit.
Karl, maybe it is because we don't watch TV?

Reid - Luis was my hero in 1959, when I was 10 years old. Probably every kid on the south Side of cHicago at that time wanted to "be" Apparicio or Nellie Fox in our alley games. Now it's just fun stuff and some leftover home town pride (haven't lived in Chicago since 78.) |

Ah, kid stuff. That's good. What did I know when I was a kid - last year? I don't know when I will grow up. Fun.
...Reid (listening to Peter's CD this instant, and trying to figure out the message for the last few years - await a review when I do, it is not easy, lotsa subtext.)

Nellie Fox guy here. I had one of his bats - thick handle bottle bat - that I used all through high school. I broke it when I was a senior and never was any good after that. I never was any good before that, come to think of it. I coulda been somebody; instead of a bum. |

You think not being in the series since 1959, and not winning one since 1917 gets you pretty close to the bottom of the under dog pile, no?
As for the niners - _rap,I rooted for the Bears for years, move to SF and end up rooting for the Bears again - this time in desguised as 49rs.
Don't ya just love totally off the topic discussions? |

Yes I do think the Sox may be pretty close to the bottom of the dog pile. However, not ever having been to a World Series, the Astros have to reach up to scratch the Sox's belly.
But for your sake, Raymond, I hope the Sox come out on top. After last nights game, I think you can go out and buy champagne.. but don't open it yet lest you have forgotten last years World Series. |
