Aloha Kakou
I'll be traveling to the upper Florida Keys for the holidays. Long story short: I'm taking my guitar and will be playing as much slack key as time allows, but with taking care of kids, cooking, and helping move and situate my in-laws in a new place down there I am somewhat unlikely to be able to host or get together with others in any kanikapila sessions. Still, I'm curious (and wishful): are there any slackers in the south Florida or upper Keys vicinity? I have never been to this new place. It's near mile marker 88.

Aloha Jeff,
I'm not too sure how many slack key players you might find there. I have a sister in the Tarpon Springs area, and last year was sponsored for a small concert and hula work shop there. I did meet a group of musicians that play a variety of music, including Hawaiian hapa-haole stuff, they just love it! I am including a email address and a phone number (I hope they are still current, I got them last year) for the group leader his name is Todd Weger. (realfreedom @ myexel.com 727-796-8396) Tell him you got this email, phone number from me, and are looking for players to jam with. Possibly, since he lives there he might be able to point you in the right direction. Florida is a BIG state, so who knows...but, it's worth a try, see what Todd says. Good luck, a hui hou Ray Sowders

Aloha Jeff,There is a group called HawaiiCallsFlorida.org. They are located in the Jupiter,Fla area. It is headed up by Charles Kaleialoha Smith. His phone is 1-561-262-0695. They had their 5th annual Ho' olaule'a in October. George Kahumoku was there. If any one can point you in the right direction Charley can. Doug (bd1) |

Mahalo Ray and Doug
This is more information than I will have the time to put to use. I'll take the info with me though--who knows. And yes Aunty, I'll at least try to get wet!
