Aloha Julie and TaroPatch Ohana!

Julie...This coming Saturday 5/10/03, I'll ask "Bruddah" Kevin about it...Being that George's workshop is during that weekend, I'm not really sure if there will be one or not! I've never been on any of George's workshops before.....so I really dunno how it's gonna be for the Saturday before. But It would be great if we did! On my next connection I'll know wether or not there will be. Or If "Bruddah" Kevin reads this reply, perhaps he'll be able to give the answer.

I'm planning a couple days vacation prior to and after the "Kiho'alu Festival 2003. That way, I may get lucky enough to meet some of you who'll be arriving early on Maui! And if I don't get the chance...no worriesat least it would be great to meet all of you, and 'troh-in some "kanikajammapila time" I was just thinking hmmmmm...wander if I should carry my "Baby" Taylor with me to the M.A.C.C., and make be pretend I'm one of the "Kiho'alu Artists"!

Aloha Julie and "Bruddah" Bill (slack key.)

It's on every Saturday no matter what!
The kahu even put up one 10 by 20 tarp.

Hey since I've been on Molokai "Bruddah" Bill has been the "captain", He has been holding down the forth.

So what do you think skipper? I know Georges work shop starts the week after the 14.

I also know the slack key work shop is Friday and Saturday. Right after the workshop on Saturday, I'll be heading out to Waihee.(20,21)

I know the rest of the Waihee slack key Ohanas are waiting to meet the other Ohana's. (taropatch.)

Even if it rains we all gather in Waihee and "kanikajamapila". So to all that will be coming to Maui, In- behalf of Bill (slack key) and the rest of the Waihee Ohana's we extend
our warmest aloha, and invite all, to join us in Waihee.

Starting Time..... 10:00 am
Pau (Finish). When you can't see your guitar.

"Bruddah" Duke,
Try see if you can come to our side of the island, and jam with the rest of the Ohana's.
Hope you can make it. Where Duke lives, is also known as...."God's Country" ( Hana. )

Does this mean maybe a weekday kanikajammapila? I need to recheck the Saturday workshop schedule. It would be great to go to Waihee from there since I only have that one Saturday on Maui.

Either way, I'm looking forward to lots of music, people and aloha next month. Slack key Bill, we'll definitely catch up with you somewhere. And Duke, coming out of Hana for some guitar?

Aloha TaroPatch Ohana!

Well! Today was yet another great day for "Waihe'e Valley Slack Key Stylings. Dr. Eli was the first to get there. I arrived just about 5 minutes or so later. Then "Bruddah" Kevin ( Da Big Kahuna) joined us around 1:00/1:30.

Got a chance to do my Jazzzed-up version of "Maunaloa" in Drop-C tuning. "Bruddah" Kevin came back with a terrific Pa'ani to add to the mix. It sounded great! Then we did it same way again, but in a rather layed-back version...Not too fast.....but totally mellow.

"Bruddah Kevin! We got do it again next Saturday!"
Before "Bruddah Kevin arrived, Dr. Eli and I did "Opihi Moi Moi" (slackkey Bill Style) He's back-up playing was awesome! It was the first time we attempted it, and it came out like we've been jamming it forever! It came out really smooth.

Looking forward to meeting all of you slackers from TaroPatch! "Andy! Let me know when you and Lynete will be on the Island! Take care! God Bless to you and all the rest! A Hui Hou! Malama Pono! Above all else no fo-get....'JUS'PRESS!!!!!!!

Aloha Kakahiaka TaroPatch Ohana!

Here's an update from "Waihe'e Valley, Maui Style Kanikajammapila"! Yesterday, (Saturday June 7, 2003) We had a really great turn-out! But the Highlight of the day was the arrival of Sarah and Reid! "Sarah! You Go Girl!" "You too Reid"! It was so wonderful to see them!

As always, we had so much fun doing what we love...."KIHO'ALU". Perhaps Sarah will later post the pictures taken yesterday. But! For now both her and Reid are stuck with us here on Maui where all of you should be too! I know Andy and Lynette will be arriving nextweek Wednesday I think. But they'll be on Oahu first visiting Lynette's Ohana! Looking forward to seing them soon here on Maui.

Julie and Mr. Hendrix will be arriving this coming Saturday. It would really be great tho if they would arrive on Friday! But If I remember correctly, they don't check-in the Hotel until Sunday June 15th. Maybe they'll surprise us on Saturday with their arrival in Beautiful Waihe'e, Valley.

Anyways, we had our turns playing a number or two, but Sarah did several! Reid too played for us several songs too! It was yet another beautiful day in Waihe'e Valley, a bit warm, but still beautiful!

Here's the list of Saturdays "Waihe'e Valley Slackers":

1) myself
2) Kevin (Ohana Brown)
3) Sarah
4) Reid
5) Dr. Eli
6) Ed Kalama
7) Dan Sythe (spelling)
8) Ed Bigelow
9) Helen
10)Uncle Sol
11)Kawika
12)Kitty
13)Pono

Looking forward to adding the rest of you Slackers too! I'm also looking forward to meeting those of you I have not yet met. "Hey Keith! Where were you?" Ha! ha! ha! Missed both you and Suzie!" Hope to "Kanikajam" with all of you soon! A Hui Hou!

Aloha kakou, impressive line-up on that kani ka pila yesterday! Yes, my husband Larry Prather and I will arrive Saturday the 14th, and we'll be lost for a while, as we have no hotel reservation for that night. We don't check in to Mauian until 15th. They're full on the 14th. Anyway, there are so many places, I hope there is one room for us... So if we drive to Waihe'e (spelling?) do we just drive into "town" and listen for the sweet sounds of a million guitars? Or is there some landmark we should look for? Larry and I play ukulele and are perpetual students in George's beginning guitar class. I think he rolls his eyes everytime we come to one of his beginning workshops! But can we still join you with our ukes? Or do we have to wait until we're guitar experts? Aloha, Julie

Hey Slackkey,

I will be there in spirit. Wishing you aloha, and all that that means.

Take good care of Julie and Larry, they're 'local'you know.

Have a blast everyone! I close my eyes in Santa Cruz, and I hear your sweet Maui sound floating over the ether to me.

With love,

Mike

Hey Bill,

Pono was at the slack key jam? What song did he play? Man, that is one smart dog!

Just starting to sink in that in one week, I'm in store of a whole lot of slack key. Looking forward to seeing and meeting the Maui crew!

Aloha Andy,
Can't wait to see you again ~ so glad you and Lynette are coming back to Maui!!

Pono did enjoy his time in Waihee last Saturday. He didn't play any songs but did join in with a few notes of arruff and a some jingles with his collar.
A hui hou, >^..^<
