Sol Ho`opi`i -- who with his brother, Richard, entertained
for decades as "The Ho`opi`i Brothers" -- has passed:

Their falsetto duos, were spectacular!

Their music is a treasure and we're lucky that they recorded quite a bit. Anyone who hasn't heard them sing needs to add another item to their "life list", that is, go hear Uncle Richard sing. He is THE living link to old style Hawaiian falsetto and a wonderful person, too.

Auntie,

Thank you for making me aware. I will keep the Ho'opi'i family in my prayers. What a loss. Sol's voice always gave me chicken skin.

Peace.

Uncle Richard came to George's camp this last June. It was right after his niece had disappeared. I could tell from his face and his demeanor that he was heartbroken over her vanishing. She is still missing, as far as I know.

Such losses for this wonderful, kind and faithful man...

My condolences go out to the family, the Ho'opii brothers will always be my favorite falseto duos.

Thanks for posting the article, Auntie. I never got to see Sol Ho`opi`i perform live, only on Na Mele and other TV. Hawaiian music loses another great.

My heartfelt condolences to the Ho'opi'i family. They've sure been through plenty this year. Another great loss in the Hawaiian music community!

It's been a sad week for maui, lot's of friends have passed on, Just got through playing for a fellow musicians mom that passed away, this friday will be the 4th funeral we've played, It'll be for uncle Sol, I will pass on all of your aloha to the ohana that night. He will be missed, a true meaning of "Hawaiian".
